Talking the other day with one of my flat-mates, I discovered that we, Spanish-speaking people, are the only ones that compare the world with a handkerchief to say that it’s a small world. French and German say either ‘it’s a small world’ or compare it with a little village.
But French has a more poetic way to put this, too: ‘Only the mountains do not meet’, which comes to say that, if you move around this tiny world, you are certain to bump into someone you already know, no matter how far from home you went.
So, choose your favourite one: a hanky or a village. But be sure you don’t stay stuck and fixed to the earth as a mountain and move, get to know the world. And all and new people. 😉
I prefer a hanky. You can fold it and take it in your pocket. What can be smaller than that?
